Fergus Connolly



Dr. Fergus Connolly is a Performance Consultant to Sports Scientists, Performance Directors and Coaches in elite team sports. He has extensive experience in Premiership Soccer, International Rugby, professional Boxing and Special Forces. A PhD in Computer Optimisation, combined with specialised knowledge acquired from apprenticeships working with some of the most successful coaches, academics and practitioners he has become an original thinker in the development of unique effective monitoring, training and regeneration approaches improving on-field performance in team sport.

Many of his approaches are now being adopted by teams around the world in the search to bridge the Theory-Practice gap, between theoretical sports science and winning.


Ged Roddy



Director of Youth football at the Premier league and the brains behind the Elite Player Performance Plan (EPPP) project. Former Director of Sport at Bath University. During his time at the University, Ged has overseen many events and initiatives including:
• hosting the European Youth Olympics in 1995
• the creation of the TeamBath concept that includes 16 elite training squads
• the opening of the multi-million pound sports training village complex in 2004
• and more recently the University’s joint hosting of the UK School Games in 2008.

Founder and owner of Ergotest technology for nearly 20 years and CEO of Ergotest innovation. Expert in the assessment of strength, power and muscular endurance and the relationships between the variables.

Tim Gabbett



Tim is a Coaching and Sport Science consultant. He has over 15 years experience working as a team sport specialist with elite and sub-elite team sport athletes and coaches from a wide range of sports. Tim has a PhD in sport and exercise science and continues to work as a sport science consultant and advisor for several high performance Australian Football, Premier League Soccer, Rugby Union, and Rugby League teams. He has also worked with elite international athletes in the 2004 and 2008 Olympic cycles, and held positions with the Queensland Academy of Sport, Tasmanian Institute of Sport, and Brisbane Broncos Rugby League Club.

Ian Jeffreys - PhD, FNSCA, PGCE, CSCS*D, ASCC, NSCA-CPT*D, RSCC*D



Ian is a senior lecturer in strength and conditioning at the University of Glamorgan, where he co-ordinates all of the University’s strength and conditioning activities. He is also the Proprietor and Performance Director of All-Pro Performance based in Brecon Wales. He has worked with athletes across all abilities and a range of sports for over 20 years and worked with athletes, clubs and sports organisations around the world. He was the NSCA’s High School Professional of the Year in 2006, and was awarded a Fellowship by the NSCA in 2009.
A Director of the UKSCA, Ian is the Editor of “Professional Strength and Conditioning” and is on the Editorial Board for the NSCA’s Strength and Conditioning Journal and the Journal of Australian Strength and Conditioning.

Ian Leigh



Ian Leigh is an organisational development specialist focusing on the design of strategies, structures, processes and systems for high performance. Ian is a systems engineer with a strong business improvement background. Over the past 10 years he has supported a wide variety of professional football and rugby clubs with the introduction of innovative models that achieve competitive edge and continuous improvement.

Brian Ashton



The Former Head coach of England RFU has credentials as both player and coach. He started playing rugby at Lancaster Royal Grammar School and progressed through age and club grades. While Brian played representative rugby for Lancashire, England North, and the Barbarians it is as a coach that he has made the more significant impact. He has coached at club and international level since 1980, including 2 years as England head coach. Brian is currently Technical Director of Rugby at Fylde RFC in Lancashire and is widely regarded as one of the most visionary coaches in the global game.

Nigel Mitchell



Nigel is currently the head of nutrition British Cycling/TeamSky. At the 2008 Beijing Olympiad the Olympic British Cycling team became the most successful British Olympic team of all time. His role involves leading and providing specialist nutritional service to British Cycling. He has a special interest in elite athletes with post viral syndrome, critical weight management and supporting athletes to manage training stress.

Nigel recognizes and values the contribution that innovation and research provides to sports nutrition and he is currently involved in partnerships with Universities on academic projects this has included projects with Portsmouth University which were directly applied as part of support for athletes at the Beijing Games. He as worked with a wide variety of sports/athletes including winter Olympic athletes. He leads the British Cycling nutrition innovation and research strategy. He believes an athlete’s nutritional needs should be provided through the diet and specializes in performance-focused diets to help athletes train and compete better.

Warren Gregson



Warren is currently a Reader in Applied Exercise Physiology within The Football Exchange/Research Institute for Sport and Exercise Sciences at Liverpool John Moores University. His current research is centered upon post exercise recovery with a focus on the mechanisms which underpin the effectiveness of cold water immersion. Other research interests include the assessment of athlete recovery status and performance analysis. Warren is currently a member of the Prozone Research Advisory Group and is a BASES Accredited Physiologist (Support & Research). Warren also serves as a sports science advisor (physiology) to Manchester United FC and The FA.
